HSE Coordinator - Signal Hill, CA

Job Description:

The HS&E Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring GEM MTS operates in a safe and compliant manner. This position will administer the corporate health and safety policies and procedures, as well as added safety requirements per customer contractual obligations. The HS&E Coordinator will perform field safety audits and oversee the safe work practices of our facilities, identifying areas of improvement where necessary and working with the proper supervisor with corrective measures. This position will handle internal safety training for all employees and reports directly to the General Manager of the region.

Key Responsibilities:
Duties may include but are not limited to:

Safety:

  • Oversight and administration of GEM MTS Safety Program
  • Provide safety training to GEM staff.
  • Monitor employee training and monitoring program
  • Customer specific
  • Regulatory specific
  • New Employee
  • Ongoing
  • Maintain California pull program
  • Maintain Training files and implementation of training program.
  • Attend customer safety meetings and build relationships with customer safety representatives
  • Perform field safety audits and develop corrective action plans in conjunction with management
  • Perform internal new-hire safety training, refresher courses and handle safety section of monthly and quarterly operations meetings
  • Maintain a safety department filing system
  • Support Contract Administrator with completion of safety questionnaires and other safety related items related to customer contracting
  • Ensure GEM MTS safe work practices at company facilities and maintain Hazardous Materials Plan
  • Complete Job Safety Audits (JSA)
  • Ensure compliance with customer-committed safety requirements
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of internal safety programs
  • Manage the Safety Committee meetings on an on-going basis
  • Handle accident investigation and analysis protocol
  • Administer GEM MTS Injury Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP) and manage Behavior Based Safety (BBS) Program
  • Maintain knowledge of contractor consortium program and compliance with consortium audits
  • Perform spot bag checks and gate checks.
  • Order and administer safety supplies
  • Perform Tailgate safety reviews and feedback.
  • Post monthly safety records.
  • Implement safety incentive program.

DOT:

  • Manifest/BOL training
  • DVIR/Log oversight and program training
  • Develop safe driver program.
  • Manage CSA 2010 Program

Qualifications/Skills:

This person will be the first point of contact for clients and must provide excellent customer service in a friendly and professional manner. We have a dynamic team culture and need an open-minded individual who has a “roll up your sleeves” attitude with a willingness to do whatever is necessary to get the job done and to help others when needed. Candidates must be organized, proficient in Microsoft Excel, and have the ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, work alone or as part of a team. Minimum of an Associates degree with at least two years of HSE knowledge and/or experience required.
