Technical/Special Projects Manager - La Porte, TX

Position Overview:

The Technical/Special Projects Manager will provide support and manage complex technical projects from initiation through delivery for our customers. This includes management and coordination among special projects teams, engineering, sales, and operations. The Technical Manager will serve as the primary liaison between technical and non-technical departments in order to ensure that all targets and requirements are met, and that special projects are completed on schedule, customer compliant and within budget.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:
May include but are not limited to:

  • Manage and drive all project management requests across client engagements
    • Proposal and Scope development
    • Sales Support
    • Technical support
  • Identify, pull together, and drive project activities of teams from cross functional and partner sources
  • Manage project to time, budget, and contracted deliverables (including planning, scheduling, milestone reviews, etc.)
  • Manage project P&L to targeted margin results
  • Drive project reviews for management and customers
  • Ensure quality and time management processes are followed by team (e.g., change controls, Daily Time Ticket submissions)
  • Help to document best practices in developing and deploying GEM MTS solutions
  • Function as a front-line resource for “best practice” and informal customer questions
  • Liaison with necessary teams within GEM MTS to achieve above items
  • Provide technical direction and work with Management to help form future technical service line development
  • Customer interface across all disciplines including HSE, engineering, operations, etc.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • B.S./M.S degree in Chemical Engineering or related field or equivalent technical training
  • 15 + years of Project Management experience in the Petrochemical and Refining Industry
  • Strong technical background
  • Strong organizational skills with an ability to manage competing client demands
  • Strong analytical skills regarding technical and project management issues
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, priorities and competing client demands
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with cross team interactions up to C-level personnel
  • Strong organizational, problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Use of formal project management tools (MS-Project, Visio, etc.)
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of the time.

  • P&L responsibility
