Client: Major Power Generation Facility Southern California Edison

Location: Long Beach, California

Project Description

Provided on-site wastewater, oil and sludge treatment services to SCE with transportable treatment units at an aboveground storage tank farm. Over one million gallons of treated water were successfully discharged into the on-site NPDES-permitted outfall and over 1,500-tons of sludge were processed on-site then disposed of off-site at a non-hazardous waste facility. The waste material was contained in a large aboveground storage tank and was contaminated with benzene, high suspended solids, oils & greases, heavy metals, phenols and surfactants. Compliance with all discharge criteria was monitored on a periodic basis throughout the project and was successfully met. The treatment processes included oil/water separation, chemical oxidation, carbon adsorption, and centrifugation.

Permitting: NPDES

Contaminants: benzene, high suspended solids, oils & greases, heavy metals, phenols and surfactants

Equipment Used: oil/water separation, chemical oxidation, carbon adsorption, and centrifugation.

Volume Treated: >1 Million Gallons

Cost Benefits: Tank Returned to service, significantly less the off site disposal
