Case Studies

Client: Major Petroleum Barging Company

Location: Terminal Island, California

Project Type: Barge Degassing – Cargo Holds Cleaning Operations

Project Description

Provided portable barge degassing services to degas 12 reformate storage holds with a total capacity of 3.4-million gallons to comply with SCAQMD vapor control standards. GEM MTS mobilized a MVCU to the dock side location immediately adjacent to the barge to control vapors from the source cargo holds as internal cleaning operations were performed. The thermal capacity of the MVCU was specifically chosen to meet the aggressive schedule needs of the barge so that the vessel could return to service as soon as practicable. Furthermore, the cost for the degassing service was much lower than the competitor's bid for the identical service.

Permitting: SC AQMD

Vapor Source(s): Reformate

Equipment Used: 20MBtu/hr MVCU

Cost Benefits: Reduction in cost, reduced degas time compared to competition

Advantage: Cost savings & compliance with aggressive completion schedule
