Case Studies

Client: Petroleum Refinery

Location: Santa Fe Springs, California

Project Type: Vapor Control/Tank Degassing – Petroleum Sludge Treatment

Project Description :

Provided mobile vapor control and tank degassing services to control emissions during a sludge treatment operation. GEM MTS utilized mobile vapor combustion and carbon adsorption technology at the refinery and provided control over fugitive emissions from a 150-feet diameter above ground storage tank, dual centrifuges, and 8 Baker tanks. The entire centrifuge operation was tented, sealed and under negative pressure where the vapors were controlled and destroyed on-site. The vapors contained significant concentrations of hydrogen sulfides, thiosulfates, mercaptans, BTEX and other related volatile organic compounds. This vapor control allowed the refinery to process the tank sludge with minimal emissions to the surrounding residential neighborhood and helped reduce transportation and disposal costs.

Permitting: SCAQMD

Vapor Source(s): hydrogen sulfides, thiosulfates, mercaptans, BTEX and other related volatile organic compounds

Equipment Used: 20MBtu/hr MVCU

Cost Benefits: >30% Cost savings on waste disposal

Advantage: Met stringent air emission requirements
